Who would win a drag race? A 707 hp. supercharged Challenger Hellcat, weighing 4,439 lbs. or a 645 hp. V-10 Viper, weighing a much lighter 3,390 lbs.? Watch and find out.

Why did the Viper owner hit the brakes twice? Is he club footed and hitting the brakes while depressing the clutch and finding another gear?

Looks like the Viper owner isn't familiar. Couldn't do a burnout, had trouble staging, and yes, hit the brake twice while shifting

Seems as thought it could have been even in this case. Had the viper not tapped the brakes twice. As for if it was two experienced individuals driving...not sure what the outcome would truly be.

Viper looks like it's out cruising on a Sunday drive...looks very smooth.

Power to weight -> Viper
Power to wind -> Hellcat
and that original video is useless, drag prepped skill vs ?
I'd love to see a Hellcatted Viper Redeye!

Look at how much the Hellcat bonnet lifts as he gets faster...

Wow, yeah. Also I calculated about 18 seconds for 0-150 on the Hellcat, that is quicker than my old 1981 Dodge Van with hopped up slant 6 in the ¼!

All vipers are stick(TR6060) unless they're TT big hp and converted to sequential or I've seen powerglide. UPS trucks come with LS2s so I think they sound pretty good lol

In an automatic versus stick drag race of similar cars, I'd take the auto nine times out of ten.
It also looked like the Hellcat had some Hoosier drag slicks on too. That's not really a fair shootout! A stock Hellcat is an Incredible car for their size, but a Viper is a Beast! I hopew that if Dodge does decide to bring back the Viper, that it has the option for some type of automatic transmission. They'd sell more cars and they'd be faster/quicker too (especially if they mated it with and all aluminum V8 with a pair of turbo's ).
I had a friend that could shift his rock crusher trans (69 Camaro with a destroked small block that would rev to the moon that he used for road racing and street driving) so smooth and quick that it sounded like an automatic. It looked like the Viper driver needed a little bit more practice rowing gears.

Vipers have the same 4 pedals as 6 speed challengers, but it's a much tighter footwell. It's one of the common complaints I hear from viper owners. Still my dream car

Either way one slices it....that guy just plain sucks. The car nose dives each time he tapped the brakes.....

There's been more Challenger Hellcat (all variants) sold is just over 4 model years, not factoring in the '18 Demons (3,300) vs. the Viper production from '92 - '17.
There was two model years (2011, 2012) skipped and during 2014 production was suspended for months due to slow sales.
Then comparing against the Viper's competition, Corvettes sell in ~ 25K - 35K from year to year.
The case for FCA bringing back the Viper is pretty slim. The Corvette has been long established in the market

Corvette will still never compare to the viper imo. Viper is the car that motivated me to go for a mechanical engineering degree.

Whole those might hold true, I can Dream and also Stranger things have happened.
The Viper was never made with the intention to sell 25-35k per year though. GM plans to sell as many Vettes as they can make. The Viper was a Specialty automobile and if they could bring it back and make a little profit on it, then I'd consider that a success. Also, if people are paying as much as $90-100k for a Redeye, then why not make a Viper that had a base model and then pay for performance options type of car?
Things such as an all aluminum Hemi that started at around 500 or so ponies and then an option for twin turbos or a blower that could make 700-900 horses. The base Viper could come with a ZF 8 speed or 6 speed and then pay your way up to a DCT or something like that too. Like I said, just dreaming.
There are cars out there that are Special that lose money for the manufacturer, but are out there because they attract a certain buyer and are just Cool (Bugatti Veyron immediately comes to mind and according to VW, they lost ALOT of money per Veyron)! It doesn't matter to VW now because they just sold it to Rivac in Croatia, who makes EV's. This is going to get interesting now to see what they do with it.

My stock 2018 widebody cat is technically faster than any stock viper made - per factory numbers - in the 1/4 mile. This comes as a surpise to many, but those are dodges numbers.
My 95 viper RT10 seems slow by comparision, and well, it is, but tis a tad brutal of a monster with no nannys stopping a 4 lane wide burnout that may or may not leave one pondering their relationship with God.
Put a 5th gen viper (2013-2017, 640hp) on a twisty track however and it will slay any version hellcat, any day of the week without trying.
5th gens also hold a 5-7mph higher top speed over any hellcat.
They are two different cars with two different purposes.
Its important to note, not all vipers or hellcats are the same, even in stock specs and 2 drag runs between two cars & thier drivers, a definitive conclusion doesnt not make. just sayn.
